Retired Educators to Meet in March
Lafayette County Retired School Personnel (LCRSP) will meet Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 2:30 P.M., at the FCS Financial office, 4100 MO-13 Hwy, Higginsville, MO. Dr. Brad Briscoe, Superintendent of the Wellington-Napoleon School District, will be the guest speaker. There will also be a general meeting with updates on legislation of concern, reports on MRTA’s Legislative Day, and the MRTA Leadership Summit. All retired educators and support staff, active teachers and support staff, their spouses, and the general public are invited to attend.

Okay, so as I’m putting a wrap on this newspaper gig, I am taking advantage one more time to share...one more time! Here are a few reflections for you, our faithful subscribers; many who have become good friends of mine as well!

Children’s Mercy Teddy Bear Toss
On Feb. 10th Children’s Mercy Hospital sponsored Youth Night and the Teddy Bear Toss at Laf. Co C-1. During halftime at the Higginsvile vs. Lexington basketball game, fans were invited to toss teddy bears or stuffed animals onto the court. All donated items were collected and donated to Children’s Mercy Hospital in KC.

Lafayette County Soil & Water Conservation District Open House and Lunch
The Lafayette County Soil & Water District will be hosting the annual open house on Wednesday, March 4th, 2026 from 9:00am to 1:00pm. The program will include Shelby Jenkins, MU Livestock Specialist, and Luke Skinner, NRCS Soil Scientist, who will present the Rainfall Simulator. The winners of the 4th grade poster contest will be recognized.

Lady Husker Hoops End Regular Season with Two Losses
The Lady Huskers were north of the Big Muddy in Ray County last week to take on the Lady Spartans in Richmond. The spmewhat up and down Blue and Gold squad had defeated RHS 46-32 in early February in their last meeting.

MRVCE Champion Huskers Split Final Conference Games
Husker Basketball made a trip over to Richmond last week on 2-16. After a lengthy senior night of introductions, (including girls being escorted and introduced not once but twice if they were a cheerleader and a basketball player), the ball was tipped at 8:26pm.
State is Set – Three Boys Joining Four Girls in Columbia
Higginsville Lafayette County C-1 played host to district wrestling action on Friday and Saturday in the Husker East Gym. In what some refer to as the District of Death (or perhaps in lighter terms, one of the toughest districts around), many wrestlers battled tough for C-1, and when all was said and done, three C1 boys punched their tickets to Columbia and the MSHSAA State Wrestling Champions this week.
