At the March 2, 2026 Board of Aldermen meeting, recognition of Years of Service was given to Jeremi Olvera (5 years). Jeremi began his employment with the City of Higginsville Police Department on March 2, 2021, transferring here from the Carrollton Sheriff's Department. Jeremi was raised in Higginsville and graduated from Lafayette County C-1 school in 1992. He entered the United States Army, as a Combat Engineer in June 1993 and spent much of his career in Fort Bragg, NC. After his military career, Jeremi attended the Central Missouri Police Academy and graduated in the Fall of 2016. After graduation, he was employed by the Carroll County Sheriff's Department. After four years there, he decided to come back home to Higginsville.

Longtime Lexington Coach Tom Beck was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame on February 1, which is a very prestigious honor. Tom coached track, football and wrestling each year at Lexington High School for a total of 30 years, and during that time he was an instrumental part of a total of 9 State Championship teams in those three sports combined, along with numerous Conference and District Championship teams. Tom was also the leader of the weightlifting program at Lexington high School, which played a key role in the physical development of many of the school’s athletes. I interviewed Coach Beck recently, and following are his answers to the questions that I asked him .

Lafayette County Retired School Personnel (LCRSP) will meet Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 2:30 P.M., at the FCS Financial office, 4100 MO-13 Hwy, Higginsville, MO. Dr. Brad Briscoe, Superintendent of the Wellington-Napoleon School District, will be the guest speaker. There will also be a general meeting with updates on legislation of concern, reports on MRTA’s Legislative Day, and the MRTA Leadership Summit. All retired educators and support staff, active teachers and support staff, their spouses, and the general public are invited to attend.
